PhD Europe Research Studentships Geological Disposal


Two PhD Europe scholarships in the Department of Geosciences, University of Cambridge:

- Record and stability of actinides in uranium ores.

- effects of radiation damage on the resolution and retention of fission products from SNF.

PhD Europe applicants should have a first-class degrees in both geological sciences, material sciences, physics or chemistry, where appropriate, for each project. Doctoral program will begin in the 2011-12 academic year and be fully funded for 3.5 years with standard EPSRC grant. The PhD Europe projects concern the use of uranium and the successful candidates will deal adequately trained in dealing with these issues. Intensive cooperation with foreign research institutions in the U.S. and Europe is planned.
Applications should include a CV and the names of two academic referees and be sent to Dr I. Farnan (if203@cam.ac.uk) to whom informal inquiries may also be made. PhD Europe applications will be accepted until the post filled but review of applications will start on 4 May 2011.
